SmartLock Raises the Safety Bar Higher
Leviton's SmartLock GFCI offers design features that go beyond the tough new UL requirements. While SmartLock will provide superior resistance to surges, corrosion and physical abuse, GFCIs can still potentially be damaged.
A "live" GFCI that cannot function properly offers a false sense of protection …

              Permits Protect You

All new electrical work requires a permit. This permit is issued by your city or town construction official. Permits protect you and your investment. The purpose of securing a permit is to have the work inspected. This inspection is required for your safety, and protection of your property.

Insurance Underwriters may have clauses in their policies that advise you to follow all codes and regulations. Policy language may vary from one company to another.  You may need to contact your insurance agent for current information. Failure to follow this advice may void your policy. Should a loss occur on a large investment, such as your home, it could be catastrophic. Before proceeding with construction projects large or small, check with your local construction official for permit requirements.

 Protect  Your  Equipment

Millions of computers and electronic gear are installed in homes and offices. Few homeowners take the necessary precautions to protect their investment. With money and time invested in your computer and other electronic gear.  Precautions should be taken to safeguard this equipment. What can you do to protect your equipment.  Provide protection from being damaged by voltage spikes and surges of electrical power. This can be done by plugging computer and electronic gear into a high quality surge protector. If your house takes a direct hit from lightning, even a high quality surge protector will not prevent damage.
Surge protection equipment has levels of quality and life span.   Many factors determine the life of a protector. The quality of the device, the number of surges and spikes induced, and method of protection.
The life span can be 1 day to 5 years. Some manufactures have equipment loss protection included with the purchase of a protector.
When considering surge protection and number of outlets needed, it is important not to overload your existing wall outlets. Nothing beats the convenience of a power strip with surge protection; however, due to the number of plug spaces, these device's can be overloaded. Depending on the number of device's you have, a dedicated outlet or outlets may be a better solution.
